The World Chess Championship venue has been finalized and Chennai lost the bid to Moscow.
Being the Chess capital of India, Chennai, also the home town of defending champion V Anand was keen to hold the championship, after the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa willing to pledge Rs 20 crore for the championship match.
Moscow' bid $400,000 higher than the original bid of Chennai to grab the prestigious match.
Higher bid and neutral ground went in favor of Moscow as the two contenders are not from Russia, while Anand is from India, Gelfand is from Belarus and now an Israeli citizen.
Meanwhile, Fide, the world governing body of chess has offered unconditional rights to India for the 2013 world championship.
